Cost-effectiveness plane. QALY: Quality Adjusted Life Year. The cost-effectiveness plane is the most common representation of the results of cost-effectiveness analysis results. The origin represents the standard alternative (calcium binders). Each point represents the ICER of each one of the 1,000 simulations conducted comparing the new alternative (LC) versus the standard one (CB). Most of the ICERs of LC versus CB resulted in lower costs and higher effectiveness, so points fell in the second quadrant, LC being classified as dominant option.
